Established in 1884, the Grand Island Public Library is the gateway for the people of our diverse community to achieve a lifetime of learning and literacy. Our mission is "to inspire and strengthen our community by connecting people with information, ideas, and experiences."
Behind all of our services we have a dynamic mission and strategic plan. We live in a time of remarkable and rapid change in the information environment and in the nature of public support for libraries. While the fundamental purpose of the Grand Island Public Library has not changed, the strategies for fulfilling that purpose must evolve to meet new circumstances and opportunities. With our strategic plan, we are taking a new approach to our time-honored mission. We will turn to the goals and values set forth in the strategic plan to develop our priorities and guide our decisions. We will better serve and enrich our amazing community in the exciting years ahead.
