Tea Party

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library is gearing up for its annual Victorian Tea Party, which is a perennial favorite for kids ages 6 – 11.

It will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 2-4 p.m. at the Hargis House Women’s Club located at 1109 W. 2nd St. Guests will enjoy the authentic atmosphere of this beautiful historic home! The tea party is in honor of the birthday of the Grand Island Public Library’s namesake, Edith Abbott, who was born on September 26, 1876. Attendees will learn about Abbott and the etiquette of Victorian tea parties, sample tea party treats and make a Victorian craft.

The library and Hargis House members will also present historical programs and host a drawing for prizes. Attendees may come dressed in period costume such as Victorian hats, dresses, and gloves. Guests such as teddy bears, dolls and other stuffed animals are also welcome. Children are required to bring an adult guest to enjoy the party with them (up to three children per adult.) Due to space limitations at the Hargis House, registration is required and early registration is recommended! The library will take registrations until the event is full or until Friday, September 13.

You can sign up by calling the library at 308-385-5333 or inquiring in person at any library help desk. For more information, please call Laura Fentress, Youth & Family Services Librarian at 308-385-5333.
